Since 1981, APF has provided financial peace of mind to its members and their families by ensuring affordable, accessible and immediate financial assistance to nominated beneficiaries upon the death of a member. APF's vision is to be a national fund providing financial peace of mind for members' beneficiaries, supported by a strong commitment to fairness, transparency, accountability, integrity and compassion. Following a recent Board Strategy Workshop and Board Skills and Capability Assessment, APF has adopted an ambitious strategic agenda for 2026–2029 focused on: Contemporary governance and organisational resilience. Sustainable financial performance and investment stewardship. Enhanced member and stakeholder engagement. Sustainable membership growth and national expansion opportunities. As part of its succession planning and ongoing Board renewal, APF is seeking an independent Director who can complement the existing Board and bring critical skills, experience and strategic insight to support the achievement of these objectives. About the Opportunity This is a volunteer Board position providing strategic oversight, governance and stewardship of the Fund. Directors work collaboratively to ensure APF remains financially sustainable, well-governed and responsive to the needs of current and future members. Desired Skills and Experience The Board is particularly interested in candidates with demonstrated experience in one or more of the following areas: Financial management, investment oversight or treasury management. Actuarial, insurance, superannuation or mutual fund experience. Strategic growth, business development or member-based organisations. Board experience. Candidates with experience in not-for-profit, member-based, emergency services, healthcare or community-focused organisations will be highly regarded. Personal Attributes The successful applicant will demonstrate: Strong strategic thinking and sound judgement. High standards of integrity and ethical leadership. A collaborative and respectful approach. A commitment to good governance and accountability. The Board meets approximately six times throughout the year in a combination of face to face and online formats, with Directors also participating in strategic planning sessions, committee work and other governance activities as required. How to Apply Applicants should provide: A current curriculum vitae; and A brief covering letter outlining their interest in the role and the skills and experience they would bring to the APF Board. Join us in supporting a trusted organisation dedicated to providing financial peace of mind to members and their families.
